Protein adsorbtion or binding to the membrane varies among biomolecules depending on the characteristics and concentration. Membranes with similar characteristics tend to bind these same proteins. We recommend hydrophilic membranes, such as cellulosic or PES for hydrophobic, i.e. globular, proteins. Keep in mind that the non-specific binding capacity for a membrane can be pre-saturated with other non-interfering proteins such as albumin. Although purity will be slighly compromised, protein yield will be increased.

The lowest binding membrane on the market today is Cellulose Acetate (CA). CA membranes are ideal for vaccines, serum plasma fractions, antibiotics, diagnostic reagents, opthalmics, tissue culture media, therapeutic agents, preparations containing proteins, vitamins and preservatives.
