Latex beads washing | T.K | 2004-09-21 | Click here to register. |

hello,
I need to wash about 1 liter of latex beads (1%V/V - 0,3µm diameter)activated & coated with proteins
I tried cross flow filtration with a peristaltic pump, Hollow fibers with a 0,45 µm/cut-off - 110 cm2 of surface and 1 µm of lumen.
I tested several parameters : speed pump, pressure...
Unfortunately, nothing seems to work,
Latex beads aggregated and plugged the membrane
Thank you for your help

 | Because the particles are 0.3u, the membrane of choice would be our .05u. You've tried 1mm id 0.45u. Way to open for the particle size, that is why they are plugging the pores. Also, you should ask your latex supplier about adding an agent to alleviate the aggregation. One commonly used agent is Tween. Another method used successfully is to employ sonication in the processing reservoir. If you have any further questions I can get you in contact with your regional Spectrum sales rep. Regards
