about pore size and MWCOEric2002-09-25Click here to register.
Hi,

Can anyone tell me the relationship and difference between pore size and MWCO on hollow fiber. Moreover, where I can find the STD method to measure these two parameters.

There is no real relationship between pore size and MWCO since the pores of a fiber that use daltons as a cutoff are irregular in shape.  I can tell you that 1000 daltons is about egual to 1 nm and 100kd is equal to about 10nm but 20kd is equal to about 4nm.  You can see there is no real linear relationship for these products.   As for a chart, visit our website at http://www.spectrapor.com/catalogs/askcat.html?book=1;#info and request an ABC's of Filtration and Bioprocessing book.  This book has a lot of useful information as well as a chart that compares daltons, microns and angstroms with regard to pore sizes.
